When Nike announced its exit from the hard goods business, one huge question loomed:
“What clubs are Rory going to play? And Tiger? And Brooks, Tony, Michelle and others?”
Well, we have at least part of an answer. McIlroy has begun his 2016-2017 campaign with new woods in his bag: The TaylorMade M2. Playing the WGC-HSBC in China, McIlroy has replaced his Vapor woods with the aforementioned sticks, and made some noticeable changes along the way.
As PGATour.com points out, his M2 driver is a 9.5 degree model set to 7.5 degrees. His Nike Vapor Fly Pro driver was an 8.5 degree setup. With it comes a 15 degree M2 3-wood, which like the driver, is sporting a different shat that Rory has previously employed.
The woods join Rory’s new Scotty Cameron M1 Prototype putter in his bag as the only non-Nike clubs, but count on him to tinker and tune all season, as he has already announced his intentions to try numerous setups before signing a new equipment deal.
But with a new bomber and a new roller in his bag, Rory is ready for the season–and the field should be definitely be on notice.
